Matt Dunstone of Winnipeg, Manitoba has won his very first Montana’s Brier. On Sunday, Dunstone defeated Alberta’s Kevin Koe in the Canadian National Men’s Curling Championship final by a score of 6-3 from the Mary Brown’s Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

It was one of two victories for Dunstone on Sunday. He also beat two-time Canadian Olympic gold medalist Brad Jacobs of Sault. Ste. Marie, Ontario, 7-3, in the semifinal.

Dunstone won the 2026 Brier alongside third Colton Lott of Selkirk, Manitoba, second E.J. Harnden of Sault. Ste. Marie, and lead Ryan Harnden of Sault. Ste. Marie. E.J. and Ryan Harnden are brothers and won the Olympic gold medal alongside Jacobs, their cousin, in men’s curling at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

A major storyline at the Brier this year was the fact that Dunstone had come very close to winning a major Curling Canada championship event in the past but did not get the job done. He won the silver at the 2023 Tim Horton’s Brier in London, at the 2025 Montana’s Brier in Kelowna and the 2025 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials in Halifax.

By winning the 2026 Montana’s Brier, Dunstone will represent Canada at the 2026 World Men’s Curling Championship in Ogden, Utah from March 27 to April 4. He will then be Team Canada at the 2027 Montana’s Brier in Saskatoon.
