Fans of The McBee Dynasty have followed Steve Sr.’s legal issues in recent years. Recently, while the McBee patriarch is currently behind bars, he has also been trying to get a lawsuit concerning him dismissed. However, the story’s gotten an update, with the case being dismissed by a judge.
The McBee Dynasty Star Took A Plea Deal Back In November 2024
Viewers were introduced to the McBee family through the reality series, The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys. This show explored their lives running a high-stakes cattle and farming business in rural Missouri.
Back in November 2024, Steve pleaded guilty to one count of making a false statement in connection with federal crop insurance. Part of the plea deal included admitting to receiving millions in federal benefits he wasn’t entitled to, totaling around $4 million. He was then sentenced to 24 months in prison.
While currently incarcerated, Steve was reportedly attempting to dismiss a lawsuit claiming he fraudulently transferred property to his sons. This allegedly would have been done to avoid him having to owe a large debt to the government.
The Lawsuit Involves A Meeting Between Steve McBee Sr. & The Government In 2023
However, a federal judge has recently denied Steve’s effort to get the civil suit tossed out of court. In this case, it was claimed that Steve was notified of an ongoing federal investigation of potential crop insurance fraud involving Steve’s operations in June 2023.
According to the filing, Steve met with the government in late 2023. He then allegedly met with his sons to transfer his interest in the property to avoid it being taken by the government.

Reportedly, in an attempt to get the civil suit dismissed, Steve Sr. had claimed that the government had no case. It was claimed that the trusts for his sons had been created before the government investigation. According to TMZ, he also claimed that he wasn’t insolvent at the time of the transfers. However, the court didn’t agree with this argument.
It was previously reported that, as part of his plea deal, the U.S. government agreed not to pursue further charges against Steve’s sons, Steve Jr., Brayden, Cole, and Jesse, or any family members. However, according to Progressive Farmer DTN, this was in connection to the fraud reportedly committed “from Jan. 1, 2018, through Dec. 31, 2020.”
At this time, fans have been following the family and their reality show, which moved to Bravo for its second season. Recently, the network renewed the series for a third season.
