Melissa Gilbert Is Known To Many For Bringing Laura Ingalls Wilder To Life
To many, Gilbert is best known for playing Laura Ingalls Wilder on the NBC series, Little House on the Prairie. This historical drama, based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s autobiographical fiction books of the same name, depicts the lives of the Ingalls family in Minnesota in the 1870s to the 1890s. She was also known for her role as Georgie McGill on the Hallmark fan favorite, When Calls the Heart.
In her personal life, Gilbert has been married three times. This includes her marriages to Bo Brinkman, Bruce Boxleitner, and Timothy Busfield.
On Friday, an arrest warrant had been issued for Busfield over alleged actions concerning two 11-year-old sibling actors. Busfield allegedly met the two on the set of Fox’s The Cleaning Lady. Reportedly, one of the victims has claimed that the alleged incidents took place when they were seven years of age.
At this time, neither Busfield nor Gilbert has released a statement concerning the allegations. However, this development came out months after Gilbert sent a direct message to Megyn Kelly following her remarks concerning Jeffrey Epstein.
On The Megyn Kelly Show, the host had claimed that an alleged source “very close to the case” claimed that Epstein “was not a pedophile.” It was also claimed Epstein was “into the barely legal type.”
Gilbert Discussed Onscreen Romance Featuring Age Gap
Kelly claimed, “There’s a difference between a 15-year-old and a 5-year-old, you know? It’s just, whatever, it’s sick. Every time we start talking about Epstein, it makes your skin crawl, right? The whole thing is just disgusting.”
On November 15, Gilbert took to social media to send Kelly a response concerning child sexual abuse. She shared: “So, I debated posting this but, I feel compelled to share. After seeing many women’s posts with the hashtags #iwasfifteen #imfifteen #iwasachild, I decided to Google search myself at that age and see what came up.”
Gilbert addressed her onscreen romance with actor Dean Butler, who played her love interest, Almanzo Wilder, on the show. At the time, she was 15, while he was 23. She continued, “Through the lens of today, this is shocking. I have no words other than to say, ‘I WAS A CHILD.’”
As she concluded her post, Gilbert also thanked her LHOTP father, Michael Landon, and her mother for protecting her. She noted, “Can you imagine if I hadn’t had them all? I am so fortunate (Sort of). Many other young women aren’t.“ Gilbert then told Kelly to be careful with her words.
Gilbert has since appeared to have deactivated her account, while details are emerging concerning Busfield’s recent arrest warrant.
