Mischief is in the air! The minions return this summer in Illumination and Universal Pictures’ Minions & Monsters, which will feature voices from Allison Janney, Jeff Bridges, Christoph Waltz, Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch, and South Park’s Trey Parker.
The yellow capsule-shaped creatures will take on Hollywood in the upcoming film as they set off on a mayhem-filled adventure to find creatures to appear in their monster movie.
The film will be directed by Pierre Coffin, who directed the first three Despicable Me films, as well as the first Minions movie. While directing an animated franchise that has raked in over $5 billion at the global box office, Coffin also provided the minions with their iconic voice and will do so again in the upcoming film. Coffin also teamed up with Brian Lynch, known for The Secret Life of Pets, for the film’s screenplay.
Audiences were first introduced to them back in 2010 with the release of Despicable Me as the goofy henchmen of supervillain Gru (Steve Carell). The mischievous yellow creatures became much beloved by audiences, earning an origin story film of their own in 2015. The minions returned in the summer of 2022 in Minions: Rise of Gru, which was a box office smash and internet sensation with the ‘Gentleminions’ trend in which people showed up in black-tie to watch the film in cinemas.
No word as of yet whether franchise staples Carell, Julie Andrews, Steve Coogan and others will make an appearance in the new film.
Minions and Monsters will hit UK cinemas on July 1st, 2026.
