The injury further reduces their options on the right wing.

Tottenham forward Wilson Odobert will miss the rest of the season after suffering a ruptured ACL.

Odobert was forced off in the 35th minute of Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Tuesday, which marked Thomas Frank’s final match in charge as he was subsequently sacked

Spurs are just five points above the Premier League relegation zone with 12 games to play, and their next manager, interim or otherwise, will not have the services of Odobert as Tottenham aim to avoid the drop.

A statement from Tottenham read: “We can confirm that Wilson Odobert has sustained a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

“Wilson will see a specialist next week before undergoing surgery, and will then commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff.”

Odobert has scored two goals and registered four assists in all competitions this season, and his injury leaves Tottenham short of options on the right wing.

What Odobert’s injury means for Tottenham

Tottenham are dealing with a dreadful injury crisis, and now have just three players, Mathys Tel and Randal Kolo Muani and Xavi Simons, who can play on the right wing.

Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison and Mohammed Kudus, who whould be Tottenham’s preferred player on the right side of the attack, are all out injured.

Odobert had made just 10 Premier League starts this season. Of their remaining options, Kolo Muani would appear to be the most likely to get the nod on the right, having made 12 league starts, double that of Tel.

Simons had found a home on the left wing under Frank, with the Netherlands international delivering some improved performances.

The decision as to who will fill that spot will, of course, depend significantly on the new manager.

Roberto De Zerbi is the current bookmakers’ favourite for the job, having this week left Marseille by mutual consent.

John Heitinga, who was recently hired to be a part of Frank’s backroom staff, is also considered a contender, as is former Spurs striker Robbie Keane. The Irishman is enjoying an extremely successful spell at Hungarian side Ferencvaros.

The dream appointment for many Tottenham fans would see a return for former boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino was sacked by Tottenham in 2019, bringing to an end a five-year spell in which he established Spurs as a regular fixture in the top four and led them to the 2019 Champions League final, suffering a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool.

Tottenham’s next game is the North London derby with Arsenal a week on Sunday.

Who else is injured for Tottenham?

In addition to their problems in forward areas, Tottenham are also dealing with a host of injuries to players elswhere in the team.

Here is the full injury list for Tottenham as Spurs aim to ensure they do not suffer relegation from the top flight for the first time since 1977.
