David Moyes has called on the Everton fans to recreate the atmosphere of Goodison Park when Manchester United visit the Hill Dickinson Stadium tonight.

The ninth-placed Toffees host Moyes’ former club needing a victory to enhance their hopes of playing European football next season.

It won’t be easy against a United side revitalised following the arrival of Michael Carrick as interim boss. Carrick has masterminded four wins and a draw since taking over from Ruben Amorim and Moyes is hoping his players are given an added push by the home supporters.

Manchester United Football Club manager Michael Carrick congratulates one of his players while facing to his left, smiling and wearing a black top. Carrick has dark hair and a moustache and beard. His player is wearing a red, black and white Man United shirt, with other players visible on a football pitch

Writing in his programme notes, the Scot said: “Michael has done a great job since taking over. The visit of Manchester United is always a big occasion and during my tenure here at Everton we enjoyed some big nights and memorable games against some incredible United teams managed by Sir Alex Ferguson.

“We always felt that Goodison usually rose to the challenge and was an enormous help to us going into any game, but none more so than in an evening games against United. We hope tonight can replicate some of those memorable nights.

“We are looking to improve on our recent home form. I’ve always believed your home ground is where you get most of your points and it’s where we hope to show that in the remaining home games.

“We always felt Goodison rose to the challenge and was an enormous help going into any game, but none more so than in an evening games against United.

“You can help us in that. Players react to your support and in difficult moments they need your backing. We want the players to feel comfortable here and feel supported.

“Hopefully that will be the case tonight and we will see an upturn in the final months of the season here.”

United visit Hill Dickinson in fine form

For United, it’s a first visit to Everton’s new ground and they will arrive in confident mood. A draw tonight will take them above Chelsea and back into fourth position in the Premier League table as they look to solidify their Champions League qualification hopes.

The Reds are the only team yet to lose in the Premier League in 2026.

Manchester United’s results under Michael Carrick

January 17 – Manchester United 2-0 Manchester City

    January 25 – Arsenal 2-3 Manchester United

    February 1 – Manchester United 3-2 Fulham

    February 7 – Manchester United 2-0 Tottenham

February 10 – West Ham 1-1 Manchester United
