ABC shows return from holiday hiatus in early January. Will Trent returns for Season 4 on Tuesday, January 6th. A few days later, 9-1-1 and its spinoff 9-1-1: Nashville return with an explosive storyline. A sneak peek teases the fate of a main character on Nashville.
ABC Plots Another 9-1-1 Crossover Event
9-1-1 aired for six seasons on Fox before it was canceled. In a shocking move, ABC picked up the show. The show’s ninth season premiered in October 2025. Some fans quit the show after Bobby (Peter Krause) was killed off during Season 8.
Season 9 included a storyline that sent two popular characters into space. However, the storyline wrapped up and returned to Earth. ABC greenlit a spinoff based in Nashville, Tennessee.
9-1-1: Nashville premiered in October. TV Line reported that viewers can expect to see two popular characters from the original show cross over to the spinoff in 2026.
Oliver Stark and Ryan Guzman are bringing Buck and Eddie to Nashville later this season for an unspecified storyline. However, the outlet shared that the storyline isn’t related to the life or death situation 9-1-1: Nashville faces in its January 8th return.
The shows previously had a crossover earlier this season for the space storyline.
9-1-1: Nashville Sneak Peek Teases Main Character’s Fate
9-1-1: Nashville cast some heavy hitters as main characters, including Chris O’Donnell, Grey’s Anatomy alum Jessica Capshaw, and Kimberly Williams-Paisley. The show’s characters face dire circumstances nearly every episode. But before the hiatus, Jessica Capshaw’s Blythe Hart was thrown from a horse right into barbed wire during the midseason finale.
Viewers were left with the image of the character unconscious with a blood-soaked injury. She’s alone in a deserted area with no one around to help. TV Line shared an exclusive look at the January 8th premiere. The outlet didn’t reveal Blythe Hart’s fate but teased that the character will be “fighting for her life.”

According to the showrunners, viewers will finally learn more about the messy triangle between Blythe, Don (Chris O’Donnell,) and Dixie (LeAnn Rimes.)
“Still waters run deep, and there’s something dark in Don. “We’re going to do an origin story for him in Episode 11, and also the origin of how Don, Dixie and Blythe’s love triangle came to be,” showrunner Rashad Raisani teased.
Blythe Hart isn’t the only one in danger when 9-1-1: Nashville returns. Hackers target the city of Nashville, putting the lives of the firefighters and residents in grave danger.
Fans took to social media with excitement for the returning show.
- “Can’t wait for the second half of the season!”
- “Can’t remember her character’s name but we gotta bring Jessie Capshaw back to life”
- “Best new show I have seen in a long time”
