When most people think of side hustles like DoorDash, they think of ways to make a little bit of extra money on the side. For some people, this is even a way to make a full-time income. However, for one driver in Reno, Nevada, a regular night delivering food turned into a potentially fatal situation. So, what happened?
Many People Use Apps Like DoorDash To Make Extra Money
Never in history has it been easier to make extra money using our phones. Whether it’s delivering food, driving people around, or shopping for and delivering people’s groceries, it has never been easier than it is now to pick up a side hustle to earn a little extra cash.
Based on estimates from 2023, there were over seven million active Dashers delivering food in the United States. That number has grown since then. When you consider that most drivers use both DoorDash and Uber Eats, that number is significantly larger based on that as well.
2024 estimates suggest that the number grew to eight million couriers in 2024, with more than 42 million customers placing orders on the food delivery app. Not only is this a way for drivers to make extra money, but customers can also order food from their favorite restaurants without having to leave the comfort of their homes.
DoorDash Dispute Escalates Into Stabbing
Based on the latest updates making the rounds, a DoorDash driver was transported to the hospital on October 15 following a stabbing incident. It turns out, an argument broke out over an assigned parking space in an apartment complex called Hillcrest Apartments in Reno, Nevada.
According to Kolo 8 News Now, “A little after 9 p.m., a DoorDash driver allegedly parked in an assigned parking spot at 207 Hillcrest Drive, the police said. The female owner of the spot showed up and a verbal exchange ensued. Two other men got involved, police said. One of them allegedly stabbed the DoorDash driver, police said. Police are trying to locate the suspect in addition to the female.”
If there is any silver lining to be taken from this, the victim had “non-life-threatening injuries” following the incident. So, at least the situation did not turn lethal following this dispute over an assigned parking space at this apartment complex. Based on the latest updates regarding the condition of the food delivery driver, they are expected to survive this unfortunate incident.
