New Zealand clinched a dramatic nine-run win over the West Indies in the third T20I at Nelson, taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. The match swung back and forth several times, keeping both teams and fans on edge until the final over. Romario Shepherd threatened to script an unbelievable comeback with a fierce knock, but Kyle Jamieson held his composure at the death. The pacer defended 12 runs in the final over, displaying clarity and execution under pressure. Earlier, Devon Conway anchored New Zealand’s innings to 177/9 in their 20 overs with a crucial fifty, while the West Indies bowlers kept things tight in the second half. The result ensured New Zealand maintained control of the series heading into the next matches.

NZ vs WI: Kyle Jamieson’s calm finish seals the match

Jamieson was handed the responsibility of the final over with the West Indies requiring 12 runs to win. The situation demanded patience, control, and smart variations, and the tall pacer delivered each of those qualities. He began with disciplined lines, restricting room for power hitting, and quickly put pressure back on the set batter.

His first four balls went for just two runs, increasing tension on the field as the target slipped out of reach. Shepherd, who had taken the chase deep with a heroic 49, attempted a big hit to keep the hopes alive. Jamieson read the moment perfectly and bowled a fuller delivery to castle Shepherd and end the resistance. The dismissal confirmed New Zealand’s victory and highlighted Jamieson’s growing influence as a dependable death-over bowler. His performance complemented earlier bowling efforts from Jacob Duffy and Ish Sodhi, who had already rattled the West Indies top and middle order. The final over showcased temperament and execution under pressure.

NZ vs WI: West Indies fight back through Romario Shepherd and Shamar Springer

West Indies appeared completely out of the contest when they fell to 88/8 inside 13 overs. The collapse resulted from disciplined bowling, sharp fielding, and decisive wicket-taking spells from New Zealand’s attack. Shepherd then took responsibility and found an able partner in Shamar Springer. Their ninth-wicket partnership changed the whole mood of the match, as boundaries began to flow and pressure shifted suddenly.

Springer supported the chase with quick scoring while Shepherd struck with power and purpose to revive hopes of a shock comeback. The pair added 78 invaluable runs, forcing New Zealand to rethink tactics and adjust lengths. Momentum briefly favored the visitors as the equation became manageable in the final overs. However, Springer’s dismissal in the second-last over halted the surge at a vital moment. Shepherd was left with a steep task, and though he battled fiercely, the final over proved too demanding. The partnership remained one of the standout positives for the West Indies in a narrow defeat.

Ish Sodhi just keeps taking wickets man! 😮🔥
