New Zealand bounced back strongly in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 with a commanding 100-run victory over Bangladesh at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. After a tough start to the tournament, the White Ferns displayed complete control in all departments with bat, ball, and in the field. Brooke Halliday led from the front with a match-winning knock, while the Kerr sisters and Lea Tahuhu dismantled Bangladesh’s fragile batting order. The win not only handed New Zealand their first points of the campaign but also boosted their net run rate significantly.

Despite early hiccups at 38/3, New Zealand’s middle order showed resilience. Halliday played a composed innings of 69 off 104 balls, anchoring the side through the middle overs. Captain Sophie Devine’s 63 from 85 balls added stability, with both players stitching a crucial 112-run stand for the fourth wicket. Their partnership helped rebuild the innings after a shaky start caused by Rabeya Khan’s double strikes. Late contributions from Maddy Green (25) and a quick cameo from Tahuhu (12* off 4) powered New Zealand to a competitive total of 227/9. Rabeya was Bangladesh’s best bowler, claiming 3/30 with her clever variations and control through the middle overs.

Chasing 228, Bangladesh never found rhythm. Rosemary Mair’s early strike set the tone before Jess Kerr (3/21) and Tahuhu (3/22) ran through the lineup with relentless precision. Amelia Kerr chipped in with her all-round brilliance, picking up 1/23 from her 10 overs and dismissing the Bangladesh captain, Nigar Sultana, with a clever flighted delivery. Bangladesh’s top order crumbled to 33/6, and only Fahima Khatun (34) and Rabeya (25) showed some fight to push the total past 100. The disciplined New Zealand attack bundled Bangladesh out for 127 in 39.5 overs, sealing a massive 100-run win. The victory not only lifted New Zealand off the bottom of the table but also restored belief in their campaign. Halliday was named Player of the Match for her gritty half-century that anchored the innings and set the stage for the bowlers to finish the job in style.
