Universal Pictures and Nintendo has released the official trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic helm the sequel to the billion-dollar grossing Super Mario Bros. Movie, bringing back lead voice actors Chris Pratt (Mario) and Charlie Day (Luigi).
Following the official announcement of the sequel title, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Nintendo made use of its recent Direct event to release the first full trailer for the anticipated animated feature.
The trailer confirmed two key additions to the ensemble cast: Brie Larson will voice the highly anticipated Super Mario Galaxy heroine, Princess Rosalina, while filmmaker Benny Safdie has been cast as the antagonist, Bowser Jr., the maniacal son of Jack Black‘s Bowser.
While specific plot details remain limited, the teaser offers an action-filled look at the franchise’s shift to outer space. It includes a glimpse of an imprisoned Bowser singing and pining for Princess Peach, with an apparent musical reference to his Super Mario 64 theme. Viewers are also treated to scenes of the worlds that Mario and his crew will explore.
Building on the big critical and commercial success of the first film, the sequel faces high expectations.
