Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie is going on tour.
On Wednesday, Neon, the company distributing the hotly anticipated Canadian film overseas, announced a 14-city North American tour in partnership with Canadian entertainment company Elevation Pictures. The two Canadian stops on the appropriately named Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie The Tour are Montreal on October 29 ($20) and Vancouver on November 10 ($28).

Director, co-writer and co-star Matt Johnson and co-writer and co-writer, co-star and composer Jay McCarrol will be in attendance at both screenings for a post-show Q&A. For the uninitiated, Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie is a film continuation of Johnson and McCarrol’s cult classic mockumentary Nirvanna The Band The Show webseries and TV series of the same name. The film follows Matt and Jay (playing fictionalized versions of themselves) as they time travel to 2008 Toronto to book a gig at the local food and music joint, the Rivoli.
Notably, this will be a cool way to see the film months ahead of its February 2026 theatrical release. It debuted to rave reviews at SXSW in March 2025 before screening at TIFF last month to even more acclaim, winning the People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award.
For what it’s worth, I got to see the film at TIFF and it was an absolute delight — easily one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in ages and a must-watch for Canadians, especially if you’re in or near Toronto. (It’s such a love letter to the city and Canadiana as a whole.) I’d never seen the show but was introduced to Johnson and McCarrol through BlackBerry, so that’s another reason to watch if you’re familiar with that outstanding 2023 comedy-drama.
It’s also worth noting that Elevation confirmed to The Globe and Mail film critic Barry Hertz that details on Canadian Nirvanna merch are to come.
