Nothing has officially revealed the 4a Pro, and while it showed off the design for the 4a earlier this week, the company is now showcasing even more details about its new device.
Firstly, the Nothing 4a Pro and the Nothing Headphone (a) will both be available in Canada, and customers will be able to grab these devices at Best Buy stores in the country or purchase them directly from Nothing. However, if you wanted the Nothing Phone 4a, you’ll have to go elsewhere. In Canada, the 4a Pro starts at $649 for the 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage model, and $799 for the 12GB of RAM, 256GB model. Pink only comes in the larger configuration.
I’ll start with the 4a Pro due to its Canadian availability (and its just super cool), it has a Glyph Matrix similar to the Nothing Phone 3. (Also, we’ll mostly focus on the 4a Pro, but provide specs on the Phone 4 at the bottom.)
The Nothing 4a Pro’s Glyph Matrix is able to show progress trackers on things like your Uber Eats delivery, your battery status, and it can show you if you get notifications from specific contacts or keywords by assigning them different emojis, like a cat or a heart. This Glyph Matrix has 137 precision mini-LEDs and is over 50 per cent larger and twice as bright as the Glyph Matrix on the Phone (3). It’s unclear if it can also take selfies like the Nothing Phone (3), but I wouldn’t doubt it.
The Nothing 4a Pro also offers an aircraft-grade aluminum unibody design that’s cold to the touch. It also comes in silver, black and pink colour variants; they all look pretty good. The handset is also 7.95mm thin, but still offers a vapour cooling system. While the camera bump looks insane, it’s definitely unique compared to some of the other ones on the market.
Spec-wise, the Nothing 4a Pro is pretty impressive for a mid-range device. Some of the highlights include a 6.83-inch 1,260 x 2,800 pixel resolution display with up to 5,000 nits of brightness, 144Hz refresh rate and up to 2,500Hz touch sampling rate. There’s a 50MP primary shooter, and a 50MP periscope camera with 3.5 optical zoom and capable of 140x digital zoom — which is more than any other device on the global market, according to Nothing. Nothing hasn’t specified the specs for the ultrawide camera, but it offers a 120-degree field of view, and GSMArena says it has an 8MP sensor. On the front, there’s a 32-megapixel selfie shooter. The device is capable of recording at 4K.
The Phone 4a Pro also sports a 5,080mAh battery with 50W charging speeds, a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor and is IP65 certified for water immersion up to 25cm for up to 20 minutes.
Alongside the Phone 4a Pro, Nothing is launching the Headphones (a) in Canada. They’re now available for pre-order and cost $294.99. The Headphone (a) comes in yellow, black, white and pink colour variants, features up to 5 days of battery life, it’s Hi-Res and LDAC certified, and offers adaptive active noise cancellation and has tactile controls.
The Nothing Phone 4a has the same lovely design as its predecessor, the Phone 3a. The Nothing 4a sports a 6.78-inch display, 1,224 x 2,720 pixel resolution, Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, and a trio of cameras. There’s a 50MP primary shooter, a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with 3.5x zoom, and an 8MP ultrawide with a 120-degree field of view.
The international model also features a 5,080mAh battery and comes in pink, white, black and blue.
