New Zealand continued their dominance over Bangladesh as Amelia Kerr struck in Women’s World Cup 2025, removing the struggling captain Nigar Sultana. With wickets tumbling and pressure mounting, Nigar’s attempt to counterattack ended in disaster, handing New Zealand yet another breakthrough. The dismissal perfectly summed up Bangladesh’s miserable outing with the bat.

Amelia Kerr tricks Nigar Sultan as Rosemary Mair takes a stunning catch

Amelia Kerr flighted one enticingly outside off, drawing Nigar Sultana into the big shot. The Bangladesh skipper danced down the track, aiming to send it sailing into the stands, but she misjudged the length completely. The ball gripped and dipped just enough to beat her reach, resulting in a mistimed connection that went high rather than long. Rosemary Mair, stationed at mid-off, showed superb awareness — sprinting back, keeping her eyes on the swirling ball, and diving full stretch to complete a breathtaking catch. It was a moment of sheer brilliance from Mair and smart bowling from Kerr, as Nigar’s lean run continued with another disappointing single-digit score. The wicket left Bangladesh reeling at 30/4, their chase in complete disarray.

Nigar Sultana’s Women’s World Cup 2025 continues slump plagues Bangladesh

Nigar Sultana Joty, the captain and anchor of the Bangladesh Women’s team, is currently enduring a difficult run of form in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, an unfortunate development that is significantly undermining her team’s prospects. As the most experienced middle-order batter, much of Bangladesh’s stability hinges on her ability to occupy the crease and shepherd the lower order. However, her bat has remained largely silent across the opening matches of the tournament, failing to provide the decisive contributions needed at crucial junctures.

This slump is starkly reflected in her numbers: she has managed just 35 runs across three innings, registering scores of 12, 5, and 18, leaving her with a tournament average of only 11.66. This poor statistical output is particularly concerning given the captaincy responsibilities she carries, as leadership by example is paramount in such a high-pressure global event. Her recent dismissals, combined with a subdued strike rate under 60, suggest a mental struggle rather than being undone by unplayable deliveries. The consistent failure of their main anchor to fire has placed immense pressure on the rest of the batting lineup, leading to several below-par team totals.
