With all of this in mind, a recent, tragic incident in Oklahoma involving a 17-year-old and a police officer’s gun is drawing a lot of attention as this story makes the rounds.
17-Year-Old Grabs Gun, Fatally Shoots Himself
According to News On 6, this incident involved an off-duty police officer who was teaching an archery class. This class occurred at the Tulsa Boys Home.
The outlet went on to say, “an off-duty Tulsa Police officer was teaching an archery class around 9:15 a.m. at the facility when a boy reportedly took the officer’s gun from the holster and shot himself. A representative with TCSO said the boy approached the officer from behind and pulled the weapon. Two other teens, two staff members, and another off-duty TPD officer witnessed the incident.”
Deputies responded to this fatal shooting incident, which took place on Tuesday, October 21. According to these same deputies, the 17-year-old died from his injuries. As of this writing, officials have not released the name of the individual who shot himself, as an investigation into this incident is ongoing.
A spokesperson for the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office went on to add, “This is just an absolute tragedy, and our prayers are with everybody who witnessed what happened today. It’s just a huge tragedy. Our hearts are broken for everybody here at the Boys Home. They do so much good work. They deal with children who’ve been through a lot. They’ve been through the system. They have a lot of struggles, and this is a place where they come to get help.”
