Olympian Sha’Carri Richardson was recently arrested in Florida. The star athlete could reportedly face a number of penalties thanks to a new “Super Speeder” law. According to later reports, two other Olympians were at the scene and also faced legal issues.
Sha’Carri Richardson Was Booked In Orange County Jail On January 29, 2026
Richardson is a track and field sprinter who competes in the 100 meters and 200 meters. The Texas native first rose to fame in 2019 while attending Louisiana State University, when she broke records running 10.75 seconds.
At the time, Richardson’s speed made her one of the fastest women in history at 19. She previously qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics and the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Recently, reports have come out that Richardson was arrested on suspicion of dangerous speeding on January 29, 2026. The Olympian was booked into Orange County Jail this past Thursday after being accused of driving at over 100 miles per hour.
Richardson’s bond was set at $500, as noted by jail booking records. Allegedly, she was travelling at around 104 mph, while tailgating and crossing lanes to traffic to pass other drivers.
Two Other Olympians Were At The Scene, According To An Affidavit
Back in July, the state of Florida introduced new speeding penalties. Thanks to this new “Super Speeder” law, drivers could be fined up to $1,000.
Should the allegation be over 50 mph, a suspect could also be mandated to appear in court. Thanks to this new law, Richardson could also face jail time or risk losing her license due to repeated breaches.

As noted by the BBC, Richardson has faced other legal issues over the years. She was arrested back in August over allegations of domestic violence following an argument with her boyfriend, Christian Coleman.
Richardson later said she would seek help after being released the following day. She also missed the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 after she tested positive for marijuana.
According to People, during Richardson’s recent arrest, Christian Coleman, a fellow Olympian, was also arrested during the speeding incident. An affidavit shared by the outlet claimed police found drug paraphernalia inside his car in Florida.
Coleman allegedly arrived in his own vehicle at the scene when officers handled Richardson’s paperwork. At the time, police noted that he failed to use his hazard lights despite being pulled over on the side of a highway. He was later charged with resisting, with an officer later finding a smoking device in his car.
A third Olympian, Twanisha Terry, was also allegedly at the scene. She was also reportedly issued a citation for stopping on a limited-access roadway.
