OnePlus is announcing the launch of the OnePlus 15, the successor to the OnePlus 13.
OnePlus isn’t revealing a lot about the OnePlus 15, but we’ve learned that it will sport the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 mobile platform, which Qualcomm announced on September 24.
I went hands-on with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 reference smartphone and was quite impressed by its Geekbench 6 scores. The reference device had a single-core score of 3,793 and a multi-core score of 12,287. To compare, our best-ever Snapdragon 8 Elite benchmark, the Zenfone 12 Ultra, offered a single-core score of 3,156 and a multi-core score of 10,036. Thus, I expect a spectacular experience for the OnePlus 15.
Additionally, OnePlus says that the 15 will be the first phone to feature the company’s DetailMax image engine, and was designed to use advanced algorithms to capture great pictures.
Of course, the OnePlus 15 will use the company’s OxygenOS to offer lightning-fast performance and adaptive software for high-end gaming, says OnePlus. With the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the OnePlus 15 should be able to stay cool under intense load.
Interestingly, OnePlus is skipping out on ’14,’ but this is likely due to East Asian culture superstition around the number four. In 2017, OnePlus skipped out on OnePlus 4, and went straight to OnePlus 5 due to this reason.
OnePlus says more details about the 15 will be revealed over the coming weeks.
