The University of Alberta Pandas have won the 2026 Canadian University Women’s Volleyball Championship. On Sunday from the Langley Events Centre in Langley, British Columbia, the Pandas defeated the University of Sherbrooke Vert et Or 25-13, 25-23, 25-12.
In the final, three Pandas reached double figures in points. Outside hitter Abby Guezen of Sherwood Park, Alberta led the Pandas in scoring with 16 points. She was followed by outside hitter Laila Johnston of Edmonton, Alberta with 12.5 points and outside hitter Payton Henderson of Victoria, British Columbia had 10 points.
Johnston led the Pandas with 12 kills. Guezen led the Pandas with four service aces, left back Misha Hameed of Edmonton led Alberta with 10 digs, while middle blocker Allie Moore of Sherwood Park and Henderson led the Pandas with two solo blocks each.
Alberta was the number one seed heading into the national championship. They only lost two matches all year. The Pandas were upset 16-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-22, 15-13 to the University of Fraser Valley Cascades on November 7 and to the Trinity Western University Spartans by a score of 25-23, 25-22, 24-26, 21-25, 15-12 on November 29.
This past weekend, Alberta beat the University of Montreal Carabins three sets to one in the quarterfinals and the Trinity Western Spartans three sets to one in the semifinals. The Pandas have now won eight Canadian university women’s volleyball championships. They previously won in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2007.
