40 years after the pair worked on American Gigolo, Paul Schrader and Richard Gere reunite in Oh, Canada. In January Blue Finch Film Releasing will release the film in the UK, today we get a look at the film’s Trailer.
This is a moving portrait of an artist reflecting on a lifetime of storytelling. Oh, Canada is based on Russell Banks book and tells the story of a respected documentary filmmaker. Who is seeking redemption for a life and career that was built on myths and deceit during one of America’s darkest hours.
It’s been a while since we’ve had a good Paul Schrader film. This one divided audiences during it’s festival run in 2024, what do you think?
This film also stars Uma Thurman, Jacob Elordi, Victoria Hill, Michael Imperioli, Penelope Mitchell, and Kristine Froseth.
Synopsis | Ailing filmmaker Leonard Fife (Richard Gere) wants to tell his life story, unfiltered, before it’s too late. As the director of lauded documentary exposés, he has much to be proud of, but his reputed avoidance of the Vietnam War draft and his past relationships harbour thorny truths. When Leonard sits for a filmed interview, with his wife Emma (Uma Thurman) present, his unruly stories about his younger self (Jacob Elordi) unleash revelations about the man behind the myth.
Adapted from the book Foregone by quintessential American novelist Russell Banks, Oh, Canada is a vital meditation on mortality that grapples with the personal and political decisions that faced many Americans in the fraught 1960s and remain resonant in new forms today.
Oh, Canada will be released in the UK and Ireland on digital platforms from 12th January 2026.
