PC Mobile has adjusted the price of one of its auto-top-up-supported mobile plans.
The Loblaws-owned mobile company has adjusted the price of its 25GB 5G plan to now be $25. Technically, the plan gives you 20GB of base data, with the extra 5GB added to your account monthly after your automatic payment.
The plan also includes unlimited Canada/US calling, unlimited Canada-wide texting, and international texting. Interestingly, PC Mobile’s website notes that any unused bonus data expires after 30 days.
Using the Wayback Machine, we can see the plan used to be priced at $29/mo, making this a $4 reduction. This also leaves PC Mobile’s general pricing in a bit of an odd spot, since it also offers a $24/4GB plan. With this in mind, I imagine more price adjustments won’t be far behind.
Compared to other telecom brands, this plan is actually a pretty decent deal. The only wireless provider that has a comparable plan is Bell-owned Lucky Mobile. It has a $25/25GB plan as well, though it only has Canada-wide calling and international texting. Moreover, Lucky’s plan only has 4G data, making PC Mobile a better value overall. Plus, PC Mobile also runs on Bell’s network.
Another provider that comes close is Videotron’s Fizz flanker brand. It has a $25/25GB 4G Canada-wide plan, which jumps to $27 if you add Canada/US calling. If you want 5G, it jumps again to $35 for 40GB of data.
Beyond Lucky and Fizz, there’s Rogers-owned Chatr with a $29/25GB 4G plan. Then things start to get more expensive. Telus-owned Public Mobile has a few sub-$30 plans, but all have less than 5GB of data. If you want more, Public has a $30/15GB 4G plan. Then there’s Freedom, which comes in with a $35/10GB 5G Canada/US/Mexico option.
Finally, there’s Virgin Mobile, Fido, and Koodo, which all have $35/20GB plans — $10 more for 5GB less data.
All that said, PC Mobile’s $25/25GB 5G Canada/US plan looks like a pretty solid deal.
