Joao Pedro admitted Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Leeds was a “missed opportunity” in their pursuit of Champions League qualification.
The Blues were heading for a fifth consecutive win under Liam Rosenior thanks to goals from Pedro and Cole Palmer but the hosts were undone by two quickfire goals in the second half to ensure the game ended level.
With Manchester United dropping points at West Ham, Chelsea missed the chance to leapdrog them into fourth place and go just a point behind third-placed Aston Villa in the Premier League table.
Pedro told TNT Sports: “We are very frustrated because I think we started the game very well. We controlled the game, 1-0, 2-0 and then we conceded. I think this season has been like this.
“We need to be more consistent, more focused and kill the game. Today it happened again. Tomorrow we need to look at ourselves and see where we need to improve.”
Asked whether it was a missed opportunity for his side, he added: “Yeah of course. It is not only today but other games at home we dropped points.
“If you want to be in the Champions League, you can’t drop points like this.”
Rosenior will have been pleased with what he saw from his side for much of the encounter after having 20 shots compared to Leeds’ four, with Pedro particularly lively as he scored his sixth goal in eight games.
The Brazilian added: “I just try to improve every day and show what I am capable of – but I have a lot to improve.”
Farke: We’re a proper Premier League side
Leeds boss Daniel Farke was delighted with the comeback courtesy of goals from Lukas Nmecha and Noah Okafor as they kept themselves six points clear of the drop zone.
He added that the result was another which proves the Yorkshire side belong in the Premier Leage as he set his sights on establishing them as a mainstay over the next few years.
Farke said: “We’ve shown this throughout the season and we’ve proved we are a proper Premier League side and we want to earn the points to play in this league for longer.
“We want to be an established Premier League side in a few years and we are a good path to achieving that this season.
The boys did us proud. Chelsea, of course, were the dominate side and created more chances and won the statistics – but I think we fought so hard for this point.
“It’s a well-deserved point and I’m very proud of the lads.”
