Kansas Postal Worker Grateful Amid Atrocious Dog Attack
Postal workers come in contact with a variety of animals on a daily basis. They will offer treats as a fun way to bond and to keep them at bay. Oftentimes, pups become extremely excited when they see the mailpeople, to the point of aggression. The hope is that the owner has trained them well enough not to attack others, but sadly, some things cannot be predicted. Such is the case with postal worker Sarah Stevens and a local pitbull. As it is, this breed of dog gets a bad reputation, and there is an attempt to destigmatize that.
Unfortunately, this attack took place in the early morning hours of October 17th, 2025. It was a regular delivery day for Sarah Stevens as she was doing her job. That was when things took a horrific turn, and a pitbull hopped a fence. It then proceeded to bite Sarah’s hand, but she was able to wrangle the pup off of her, but not for long. The dog soon jumped back up and was back at her arm, knocking Sarah completely down, and clearly, she could not handle this on her own.

One of the biggest shockers to the Kansas postal worker was how the pitbull was able to escape and come to her. Yes, she encounters many dogs in her workweek, but this was unexpected and next level:
“It surprised me that it got out. I was not expecting it. They bark at you, but there’s lots of dogs that bark at you.”
What happened next likely saved Sarah’s life. She was pleading for help when a nearby neighbor came to her rescue and killed the dog. Sarah’s husband, who was not local at the time, immediately came to be with his wife.
How Is Sarah Faring?
Sarah Stevens immediately sought medical attention after this horrific attack. The Kansas postal worker was taken to the hospital, where she was thoroughly evaluated. As it turned out, Sarah suffered a fracture plus multiple cuts, and punctures. This was the best outcome for what she went through, but she knows that it could have been far worse. Sarah has nothing but praise for those who were there and thinks about how it could have had a different outcome:
“I am feeling very happy to be alive. I’m glad it was me and not a child. Stuff happens, we just gotta get up and roll with it.”
Despite what happened, Sarah has plans to be back at work as soon as she can. First, she needs to get her hand back in shape, and then she will be unstoppable.
Are you shocked that this was not as bad as it could have been for the Topeka, Kansas, mailwoman? Moreover, do you have praise for the people who took action? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
