An actor who starred in a police television drama recently shared a health update with fans. He shared that he was in the final stages of his life. During the share, he also talked about what gave him comfort during this time.
The Actor Previously Underwent Surgery To Treat Stage 3 Melanoma
The actor had appeared in over thirty episodes of a police drama. However, in recent years, he has also shared his health journey with fans on social media.
Reportedly, the actor had undergone twelve hours of surgery in early 2022 to treat Stage 3 melanoma. At the time, the surgery involved the removal of a large tumor behind the ear. Since then, the actor shared a more recent update on social media.
The actor, identified as Finnian Garbutt, starred as police constable Ryan Power in the BBC Northern Ireland police drama Hope Street. Viewers first saw him in the role in 2023.
In a recent share on Instagram, the actor noted that he endured a few aches and pains in his hip and back that convinced medical professionals to have him undergo a few scans.
Following this, Garbutt shared, “My cancer team admitted me the other day for observations and to do a few scans.” He continued, “Unfortunately, the scans have shown that the cancer has progressed rapidly in my body and I am now entering the last stages of my life.”
The actor, who was 28 at the time he made the share, admitted that he felt it was easier to share things in a post instead of individually. Now that the news was out “in the open,” Garbutt hoped that he could dedicate his time to his friends and family.
Finnian Garbutt Took Comfort In Accomplishing A Few Of His Life Goals
On Instagram, Garbutt shared that he was told that his cancer was terminal two weeks before his daughter, Saoirse, was born in September 2024. At the time, he explained that melanoma had “spread to my liver and lungs.”
In a follow-up post, Garbutt also shared that a GoFundMe account had been created to help his family during this time. As he wrote, “All I want is my wife and little baby to have the life they deserve. And I wanted to be the one that provided that, which now is unfortunately no longer possible.”
“Any donations will go a long way in supporting my wife and baby as they navigate life without me. And supporting Saoirse’s future. Whilst also keeping them safe and secure in our home.”
As noted by People, Garbutt’s initial cancer diagnosis was made four years ago. However, as shared on social media, he found comfort in that he accomplished many of his life goals, from his acting career to becoming a husband and father. This also included appearing in the upcoming movie, Housejackers, where he plays the character of Raymond.
As noted by IMDB, Hope Street revolves around Detective Constable Leila Hussain, a “big city girl,” who sparks interest after being transferred to a sleepy seaside town along the Northern Ireland coast. In the series, Garbutt portrayed PC Ryan Power.
