Prince Harry’s ‘Serious Error’ Resurfaces As Duke Reveals His Dad Is His ‘Focus’

Prince Harry has signaled a renewed focus on reconciling with his father, King Charles III, following their first private meeting in over two years.

In an interview, the Duke of Sussex stressed prioritizing his father while affirming happiness with his California life.

However, Prince Harry’s move to reconcile with King Charles has been branded as “desperate,” with a royal expert accusing him of making a “serious error.”

In an interview with The Guardian published Sunday, September 14, Prince Harry reflected on his recent reunion with his father, King Charles III, and shared his intentions for the year ahead.

“The focus really has to be on my dad,” the Duke of Sussex said, hinting at his desire to spend more time with the British monarch.

When asked if he hoped to spend more time in Britain and possibly bring his children (Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4) along, Harry replied, “Yes, I would. This week has definitely brought that closer.”

Although open to more frequent visits to the U.K., Harry emphasized that he is content with his current life in California.

“I think parts of the British press want to believe that I am miserable, but I’m not,” he said. “I am very happy with who I am, and I like the life that I live.”

According to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, Harry’s recent quest to reunite with his father comes on the heels of a “serious error” he made during his interview with the BBC back in May, after he lost his legal battle for security in the UK.

In the interview, the duke admitted he longed for reconciliation with his family and voiced concern about his father’s health, saying, “I don’t know how much longer my father has.” He also claimed at the time that the king was refusing to speak with him, leading to backlash from palace insiders, who felt his remarks were unnecessary.

“Harry made a serious error in giving an emotional half-hour interview to the BBC when he lost his case over automatic police protection,” Fitzwilliams said, per Fox News.

The expert also noted that Harry’s recent moves, especially his Ukraine trip after he met with his dad, show that the prince has “a new way of doing things with new advisers, whose advice is being heeded more.”

During the interview, Harry defended his memoir “Spare,” insisting it was written to set the record straight rather than to seek retribution. The Duke of Sussex rejected criticism that the book was “about revenge.”

Released in 2023, “Spare” detailed the rift within the royal family, including allegations that Prince William once physically assaulted him.

“I don’t believe that I aired my dirty laundry in public,” Harry explained. “It was a difficult message, but I did it in the best way possible. My conscience is clear.”

He added, “It is not about revenge; it is about accountability. You cannot have reconciliation before you have truth.”

Marking his 41st birthday on Monday, Harry described the memoir as “a series of corrections to stories already out there.”

The interview comes after  Harry and Charles shared an emotional reunion at Clarence House on Wednesday, September 10 — their first private meeting in more than two years.

According to Us Weekly, the encounter was set in motion earlier this year when Harry sent his father a handwritten letter expressing his wish to repair their relationship.

Harry, who had flown in from his Montecito, California, home to attend the WellChild Awards and visit the Center for Blast Injury Studies at Imperial College London, met Charles at 5:20 p.m. The meeting lasted just under an hour before Harry departed for an Invictus Games engagement.

The source said their conversation touched on family matters, including “catching up personally about the children and what has been going on with Charles and his health.” The reunion reportedly ended with “hugs and tears.”

Charles revealed in February 2024 that he had been diagnosed with cancer, though the specific type has not been made public.

Meanwhile, as Harry marks his 41st birthday, royal commentators suggested that his greatest wish may be for reconciliation with his family.

Royal watcher Ian Pelham Turner described Harry’s current efforts as a “well-structured charm offensive” aimed to “re-identify his credibility, his kindness and warmth and the key values he holds most dear.”

According to Turner, “Harry is longing for a popular return to Britain with Meghan and his children,” a return that could even rival the popularity once enjoyed by William and Kate.

“The future of the monarchy, in my opinion, is reliant on unification…the royal brand must stay united now, egos have to be put aside, with much less secrets and much more openness required,” Turner added.
