One star from Project Runway recently talked about living a life of celibacy, noting that it lasted for decades. During the emotional share, they acknowledged the heartbreaking reason behind it. They also shared whether or not they regret their decision moving forward.
One Project Runway Alum Made An Emotional Admission
Project Runway is a reality series that premiered on Bravo in 2004. Focusing on fashion design, each of the contestants competes to create the best looks.
Over the years, viewers have seen various faces join the show. The series has also switched networks at times, also airing on Lifetime and Freeform.
Tim Gunn has had a prolific career in fashion, having served on the faculty for Parsons School of Design in Greenwich Village, New York. For many, however, he was best known for appearing on Project Runway for over sixteen seasons, leaving around 2018.
Recently, Gunn made an appearance on Chelsea Handler’s “Dear Chelsea” podcast. During the conversation, he opened up about being celibate for 43 years and the surprising reason behind it.
As Gunn explained, he made the decision to remain celibate after a relationship ended badly. He noted, “I had a very serious nine-year relationship in Washington, D.C., and I loved this person deeply and would have done anything for him. And I still remember the night that it all ended.” Gunn noted that he was just watching M*A*S*H when his partner shared, “I have no patience for you any longer. I want you to leave.”
Tim Gunn Touched On Whether He Would Change His Decision If He Could
Gunn noted that, while he owned his own apartment, he had been living with his partner for years. In addition, he shared that they worked together, meaning they still had to see each other following the breakup.
As Gunn noted, he learned his partner had slept with other people, while he shared he had been faithful to him. He even added, “He was the only person I’d ever been with.”
Admitting that there have been times where he was “tempted to engage in something that could become serious with someone,” Gunn noted this breakup “would come back like Niagara Falls, and it would just take the desire away.” Ultimately, this led to his decision to choose celibacy. While admitting it was an “adjustment,” he shared that he “wouldn’t have it any other way.”
