Telus is raising prices for its value wireless brand, Public Mobile.
Some Public Mobile customers took to social media after receiving messages from the company about a $3/mo price increase. Most people hit by the increase appear to be on $15 and $20 plans, so it looks like Public is targeting customers on some of its cheapest plans.
In a statement to MobileSyrup, Telus said:
âWe proactively contacted a small number of Public Mobile customers on select legacy monthly rate plans to inform them that they would see a $3 increase on their next billing cycle, beginning October 30. Affected customers can take advantage of any of our in-market monthly rate plans that best suit their needs and budget, which includes unlimited Canada-wide talk and text, and data at 4G and 5G speeds, offering even more value.â
While Telus said itâs increasing costs for select legacy plans, some on Reddit claim they were on newer plans. One customer noted they were on a $15/500MB plan that came out in June 2025.
Publicâs current plans â which just went up in price â donât go below $20/mo. The companyâs $20 plan only offers talk and text, with customers needing to fork out $25/mo to get 3GB of 4G data.
Unfortunately, there arenât a ton of great sub-$20 options outside of Public either. Lucky Mobile and Chatr Mobile both offer $19/500MB plans, which arenât ideal. As usual, Freedom has one of the best options with its $129/year plan, which includes 20GB of data and unlimited talk and text. That works out to roughly $10.75/mo and 1.6GB of monthly data, which is a decent value overall.
In other words, if you got hit with Publicâs price hike, you might want to start shopping around for alternate providers. You might be able to find a half-decent deal out there.
