Telus-owned Public Mobile ran a flash sale over the weekend, offering several plans for 50 per cent off. While the sale is over now, some customers who signed up during the sale are facing problems.
In a post on its community forums, Public Mobile said it was experiencing “higher than normal traffic” after its “outstanding” flash sale, causing issues for some people. Issues include problems activating or promotional discounts not appearing. Here’s Public’s full statement:
“We acknowledge that some of you may have experienced activation issues and we are working hard to resolve them. Some of you may also notice an issue where the promotional discount is not appearing as expected. There may be a delay before it is displayed, but please know that it will be applied as promised.
“For those of you that have submitted a support request, rest assured our teams are working quickly to assist everyone.”
Public’s post is full of replies from frustrated customers sharing different problems they’ve encountered while trying to take advantage of the deal. There is a range of issues, with some people reporting their number isn’t activated, or that they had errors while transferring their number, while others note they can make calls but can’t receive them.
There are also several complaints from users who submitted support tickets but haven’t received updates in over 12 hours.
The situation is definitely frustrating, and here’s hoping the issues get resolved fairly quickly. That said, Public can be a bit slow in my experience. For one, the number port process can take some time and be somewhat nerve-wracking, even under normal conditions. When I switched to Public in December 2024, the number port was mostly smooth, but I was left without signal for a bit.
However, since making the switch, I’ve had very few issues with Public, though one of the problems I had took a while to resolve. Back in September 2025, Public had an issue with Rich Communication Services (RCS) that caused messaging to stop working properly for a number of people, including myself. It took several weeks of back-and-forth with Public, as well as writing about the problem, before it was fully resolved.
While I’d still recommend Public Mobile to most people, it’s worth keeping in mind that the support process can be kind of slow if you have a problem — especially if it’s widespread, like the current activation issues.
