Telus-owned Public Mobile is emailing win-back offers to some former customers.
The emails come on the heels of a series of sales from Public and other providers, such as Freedom Mobile’s $40/250GB plan. And while I’m not saying Public lost a bunch of customers, I will say that I left Public for Freedom’s 250GB plan and then received a winback email from Public the following day.
I’ve actually received two winback emails from Public now, though both have the same offer: $5 off $34+ plans for 24 months ($120 total savings), or $3 off $29-$33 plans for 12 months ($36 total).
Of the two, I think the $5 discount is the better offer — you save more money, over a longer period of time.
If you get one of these winbacks, you need to sign up using promo code WINBACK120 or WINBACK36 and use the same phone number you used with Public before.
All that said, I’m also not exactly impressed by either winback deal. With the $5 discount, you could get $30/40GB, $35/100GB, or $45/150GB 5G CAN/US/MEX plans. Those are all decent, but I don’t think they beat the $40/250GB Freedom plan.
On the flip side, the $3 discount can only be applied to one plan that Public offered at the time of writing, which would net you a $27/15GB 4G plan. But that deal frankly isn’t very good, since you could get a $25/25GB plan from various providers, including Koodo (prepaid), Lucky Mobile, and Chatr.
Anyway, if you’re a former Public Mobile customer, keep an eye on your inbox for a winback offer like this. It could net you a decent deal, assuming you didn’t leave Public for an even better offer.
