Liverpool playmaker Florian Wirtz produced two goals and two assists as Germany won in Switzerland as both sides continued their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Nottingham Forest winger Dan Ndoye collected Sunderland playmaker Granit Xhaka’s pass and surged inside the box on the left to fire in the 17th-minute opener for Switzerland, but Germany levelled nine minutes later when Bayern Munich defender Jonathan Tah nodded in Wirtz’s cross.
Breel Embolo headed in Silvan Widmer’s delivery to restore Switzerland’s lead with four minutes of the first half remaining, only for Germany to equalise again when Serge Gnabry applied a deft finish inside the box from Wirtz’s lofted pass.
After Wirtz curled Germany in front from distance in the 61st minute, Joel Monteiro followed suit for the hosts with 11 minutes remaining – but Wirtz had the final say with another splended strike in the 85th minute, supplied by Pascal Gross.
Germany are next in action at home to Ghana on Monday (19:45 BST). Switzerland visit Norway a day later (17:00).
