Speaking on JioHotstar, Rohit highlighted the importance of having Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh operating together, calling it a major positive for the Indian side. However, it was Arshdeep who stood out in Rohit’s assessment as a key player for the mega event. According to Rohit, Arshdeep’s biggest strength lies in his ability to swing the new ball and attack for wickets from the very first over, while also delivering under pressure at the death.
“It is a big positive to have both Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh together because they always attack for wickets. Arshdeep’s biggest strength is swinging the new ball and taking early wickets. He mainly bowls with the new ball and at the death. Starting and finishing are the most important phases, and he is strong in both,” said Rohit while speaking on JioHotstar.
Rohit explained that starting and finishing are the most crucial phases in T20 cricket, and Arshdeep excels in both. His skill set against different batting combinations makes him especially dangerous: swinging the ball into right-handers to target the pads, moving it away from them, and luring left-handers into mistakes with catches in the slip cordon.
“With the new ball, he swings it to get left-handers caught in the slips and targets the pads of right-handers. He has also started taking the ball away from right-handers. These skills are key for a new-ball bowler,” added Rohit.
Rohit also recalled Arshdeep’s decisive impact in the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa, particularly the dismissal of a well-set Quinton de Kock and a near-perfect 19th over that conceded just a handful of runs. For Rohit, these moments underline why Arshdeep will be central to India’s plans in 2026.
“He always tries to take wickets, which is why he bowls the first over. In the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa, he did a great job. I still remember he dismissed Quinton de Kock when he was set and batting well. In the 19th over, he gave away just two or three runs, which built pressure on the South Africans. That is his game, bowling with the new ball and at the death, and he will play a key role for India in the 2026 T20 World Cup,” Rohit added further.
