The fallout between Ryan Lochte and his estranged wife, Kayla Reid Lochte, remains contentious.
During a recent interview, Kayla disclosed that she and Ryan have maintained minimal communication while navigating their complex divorce proceedings.
Kayla also addressed Ryan Lochte’s parenting, appearing to suggest that the Olympian may be falling short of expectations for their three minor children.

Speaking with PEOPLE, Kayla said that she and Ryan are “obviously … not in a good place” since she announced their plans to separate last year.
In her interview, Kayla also implied that she’s had issues with Ryan’s parenting, adding, “I really pray that he becomes the father our kids deserve.”
While she didn’t share much about where she currently stands with Ryan, Kayla, a Florida-based real estate agent, said that she wishes the swimmer well.
“We try to have minimal interaction,” she added.

According to a previous report from The Blast, Kayla announced her plans to divorce Ryan in an emotional Instagram post in the summer of 2025.
“Earlier this year, I made the hard decision to end my marriage after deep prayer and reflection,” she captioned the somber post. “I hold marriage in the highest regard, so this has been one of the most painful, revealing, and challenging seasons of my life. I’ve been hesitant to share until I could do so from a place of healing — not from fresh, open wounds.”

She continued, “Sometimes we face trials we didn’t choose or see coming. And in those moments, we’re forced to make the hardest decisions to protect our peace, our children, and our future. I’ve come to the understanding that staying isn’t always the most loving decision someone can make. For me, leaving was an act of love — for those around me and for myself.”

Since the news of their divorce went viral, Kayla and Ryan have traded jabs in the media, accusing each other of unsavory behavior.
Months later, Ryan announced he would detail a portion of his marriage in his new memoir, according to The Blast.
“I went from a single guy who only cared about surfing and hanging out with friends—who had barely kissed a girl until I was in college—to becoming one of the world’s most eligible bachelors,” he said in a social media video.
Ryan explained that things went downhill, though, after he one day found himself preparing to have a baby with “someone I barely knew, who constantly reminded me that [our child] would be forever disappointed in the father I had become.”

While there’s still more to learn about Ryan’s marriage with Kayla in his upcoming memoir, the swimmer shared that being with her made him “depressed to my core,” which, in turn, led him to rely on drugs, alcohol, and sleep to cope.
“Every day, I woke up to be belittled and reminded of my constant failures, day in and day out, until I was eventually kicked out of our family home,” he added.

Aside from his ongoing divorce, Ryan made headlines toward the end of 2025 when he announced he’d partnered with Goldin Auction House to auction three of his six career gold medals from the Olympic Games.
According to The Blast, Ryan parted ways with the medals from the 2004, 2008, and 2016 Summer Games for a whopping $385,520.
The news of his decision came days after a Florida HOA announced it was suing Ryan and Kayla for allegedly failing to “pay the assessments of all types, interest, late fees, administrative fees, attorney’s fees, and costs of collections due to [the owner’s associate].”
