The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed Canadian receiver Kian Schaffer-Baker to a contract extension through 2027. He was a pending free agent.

The 27-year-old native of Mississauga, Ont. made 15 catches for 177 yards over five regular-season games in 2025. He added three receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown in the West Final against the B.C. Lions and three catches for 27 yards in the Grey Cup against the Montreal Alouettes.

The six-foot-four, 195-pound target was originally a fourth-round pick in the 2020 CFL Draft out of the University of Guelph. He has since caught 220 passes for 2,865 yards and 14 touchdowns over 57 regular-season games with Saskatchewan.

The Roughriders recently signed fellow Canadian receiver Samuel Emilus to a two-year contract extension worth $285,000 in hard money for 2026, leading to speculation that the team would be unable to retain Schaffer-Baker as well. General manager Jeremy O’Day quashed that from the recent offseason winter meetings, saying it would be difficult but not impossible.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders finished first in the West Division standings in 2025 with a 12-6 record, finishing first in the West Division for the first time since 2019. The team went on to defeat the Montreal Alouettes in the 112th Grey Cup in Winnipeg, marking the team’s first championship in 12 years. Trevor Harris went 11-5 as a starter, throwing for 4,549 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

The Roughriders ranked second in net offence, second in net defence, and tied for third with a turnover differential of plus-eight. The club’s leading rusher was A.J. Ouellette with 1,222 yards, leading receiver was KeeSean Johnson with 1,159 yards, and leading tackler was A.J. Allen with 91 tackles. Saskatchewan finished second in attendance with average crowds of 28,427, which was a 2.7 percent increase from the previous year.
