The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed Global punter Oscar Chapman.
The six-foot-three, 211-pound specialist played collegiately at Auburn University where he punted 243 times for an average of 43.5 yards over 59 career games. He placed 33 percent of his punts inside the 20-yard line, is ranked sixth all-time in Southeastern Conference history in total punts, and eighth all-time in punt yardage.
The 26-year-old native of Adelaide, Australia signed with the Minnesota Vikings after going unselected in the 2025 NFL Draft but did not see any regular-season action with the team.
Chapman was 3DownNation’s third-ranked punter in the 2025 CFL Global Draft.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders kept most of their big names in free agency but still suffered some key losses, including quarterback Jake Maier (Ottawa Redblacks), receiver Tommy Nield (Winnipeg Blue Bombers), defensive lineman Malik Carney (Edmonton Elks), linebacker A.J. Allen (Ottawa Redblacks), and strong-side linebacker C.J. Reavis (Ottawa Redblacks). Micah Johnson retired to become the team’s defensive line coach, while receiver Dohnte Meyers departed for an NFL shot with the Cincinnati Bengals.
In 2025, Saskatchewan finished first in the West Division standings with a 12-6 record. The team went on to defeat the Montreal Alouettes in the 112th Grey Cup in Winnipeg, marking the club’s first championship in 12 years. Franchise quarterback Trevor Harris went 11-5 as a starter, throwing for 4,549 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
The Roughriders ranked second in net offence, second in net defence, and tied for third with a turnover differential of plus-eight. The club’s leading rusher was A.J. Ouellette with 1,222 yards, leading receiver was KeeSean Johnson with 1,159 yards, and leading tackler was A.J. Allen with 91 tackles. Saskatchewan finished second in attendance with average crowds of 28,427, which was a 2.7 percent increase from the previous year.
