In an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, Disney are currently conducting screen tests for their upcoming live-action Tangled adaptation. These screen tests have been taking place over the last week in the UK and have been focused on chemistry readings for the lead roles of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, both of which were voiced by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi in the 2010 original.
Noteworthy names who have tested for Rapunzel include Teagan Croft, Sarah Catherine Hook, Freya Skye, and Olivia-Mai Barrett. Lola Tung, best known for The Summer I Turned Pretty, was also reported to be in the mix but didn’t test.
For the role of Flynn Rider, names such as Charlie Gillespie, Milo Manheim, and newcomer Gilli Jones have been thrown into the mix.
The role of Mother Gothel, the one responsible for locking Rapunsel in the tower, was originally going to be played by Scarlett Johansson, but she has dropped the project due to commitments on The Batman Part II and Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist.
The live-action adaptation of Tangled is set to be directed by Michael Gracey, who recently helmed Better Man and The Greatest Showman, and will start production in the UK in June. This remake has the potential to follow in Lilo & Stitch‘s footsteps, which surpassed $1 billion at the box office this year.
