The SEC tournament is no longer the Kentucky Invitational, but they still have a massive favorite in 2026. After a slow start to the season, the defending SEC and National Champion Florida Gators are looking like one of the best teams in the country.

They don’t have a Walter Clayton-level player to carry them in big moments, but they still have the best front court in the conference that can take over games with Thomas Haugh and Alex Condon. Transfers Xavien Lee and Boogie Fland have been playing their best basketball recently, and if they’re playing well, good luck beating Florida.

The rest of the conference is a lot tighter. There are two tiers among the other conference contenders. Tier 1 has Alabama, Tennessee, and Arkansas, and they’re serious contenders, and then there’s Vanderbilt and Kentucky, who have won big games but are much more flawed.

Bama might be the most fun team to watch in college basketball. They have the 3rd-ranked offensive rating and the 68th defensive rating. They play a million miles an hour, score the most points in the country, and come into the SEC tournament winning nine out of their last ten. Labaron Philon Jr. is one of the best players in the country and the exact type of player you want leading your team in March. Nate Oats has had some great teams recently, and this team is a step back, but are still a great bet at +700.

Why Arkansas is the best bet for SEC tournament

The Tide might be the most fun team in the country, but Arkansas is my best bet for the tournament.

Freshman Darius Acuff Jr. will be a lottery pick in a few months, and he leads a Razorback team that I feel is the most underrated in the country. John Calipari is settling in year two at Arkansas and has a team that can beat anyone in the country.

They can avoid Florida until a championship appearance, and that’s why I love them at +900. Arkansas can struggle to defend big lineups, and they would avoid the best bigs in the conference, from Florida and Tennessee’s Nick Ament, until a potential championship matchup. Also, it’s always going to be hard to bet against Coach Cal in the SEC tournament.

Speaking of Coach Cal, his old team is starting to be a bit underrated. The Wildcats are +3000 to win the SEC because they are inconsistent. Will we get a Kentucky team that swept Tennessee this year, or will we see a Kentucky team that got run off the floor by Vandy?

With both of the teams out of Tennessee, I’m not very high on either of them. These two are sort of the inverse of one another, with Vandy having a high-powered offense with a solid defense and Tennessee having a great defense with a solid offense. When it comes to these two, you kind of know what you’re going to get on a night-to-night basis. Their floor is much higher than a Kentucky, Arkansas, or Alabama floor, but at their best, they just don’t impress me. I would stay away from betting on either of them.

Georgia is firmly in the NCAA tournament, but I don’t see them as a team that can string together enough wins to make much noise in the SEC.

Everyone else below the Bulldogs in the SEC will be fun bubble watches. Texas A&M, Texas, and Missouri are currently in the tournament if the season ended today, but if there are any bid stealers, their spots will be in grave danger. They will all have to win at least one game in the SEC tournament to make it to the dance, and even then, they might need a little more help.

Auburn is the last team in the SEC who could technically be an at-large selection, but they should realistically have to win at least two, or even three, games to be an at-large. They’re currently one game over .500, and if they take an at-large spot from a Miami team that loses in a MAC Championship, it would be an absolute mistake from the committee.

Florida will probably win the SEC Tournament, but I think Arkansas is the best bet at +900.
