Social media users are buzzing after Olympic gold medalist Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested on Thursday, January 29, 2026, and charged with speeding.

This isn’t Sha’Carri Richardson’s first run-in with the law, as the track star was previously arrested in 2025 and charged with domestic violence following an altercation with her boyfriend, Christian Coleman, at an airport.

Sha’Carri Richardson Arrested After Being Allegedly Clocked Driving 104 MPH

According to several sources, including NBC News and ESPN, Richardson, one of the world’s fastest sprinters, was booked in Florida on Thursday.

The Olympian, 25, was charged with “dangerous excessive speeding at 100 mph or more” after she was allegedly clocked going 104 MPH.

Law enforcement officials claimed the gold medalist was “dangerously tailgating” and weaving across lanes of traffic to pass other vehicles.

Richardson’s bond was set at $500.

Dramatic body camera footage of Richardson’s arrest has been shared online, showing a Florida police officer voicing his apparent displeasure with the athlete on the side of the road.

“I would wipe that smile off your face,” the officer told Richardson, who attempted to reason with him, explaining that she didn’t realize she was speeding.

“You’re driving at 104 MPH in a 65 MPH with subpar equipment … you’re going to jail,” the officer added in the video.

The body camera footage of Richardson’s arrest has sparked intense feedback and reaction from social media users, many of whom seemed disappointed by the LSU alum’s latest legal battle.

“I want her to win so bad she need to get it together,” someone wrote. Another wrote that Richardson shouldn’t have begged because the act will “never work.”

Other users defended Richardson, with one saying the officer could’ve given Richardson a ticket to keep things moving. “I wish the absolute worst for him,” they finished.

Someone else offered a different perspective and criticized Richardson for allegedly traveling too fast.

“Nah, 104 in a 65 is wild and she could have easily harmed herself and others,” a user posted.

Sha’Carri Richardson Arrested In 2025 After Dispute With Boyfriend

According to a previous report from The Blast, Richardson had another serious run-in with the law in 2025 when she was arrested and charged with domestic violence after getting into an alleged altercation with her boyfriend in an airport.

Richardson and her boyfriend, fellow Olympian Christian Coleman, were traveling to a track meet when the pair reportedly got into a heated altercation, resulting in Richardson allegedly pushing Coleman into a column. But it didn’t stop there. Security footage, per police reports, also shows Richardson throwing a pair of headphones at Coleman.

Coleman broke his silence after the incident, calling it a “sucky situation” before arguing Richardson shouldn’t have been arrested. “I don’t feel like she should have been arrested. I mean, people have discussions and emotions and stuff like that.”

In 2021, Richardson was back in the headlines after she was suspended from competing for a month after testing positive for THC at the 2021 United States Olympic trials.

‘We all have our different struggles, we all have our different things we deal with, but to put on a face and have to go out in front of the world and put on a face and hide my pain,” Richardson said after news broke. “Who are you? Who am I to tell you how to cope when you’re dealing with a pain or you’re dealing with a struggle that you’ve never experienced before or that you never thought you’d have to deal with. Who am I to tell you how to cope? Who am I to tell you you’re wrong for hurting?”

Another Olympian Faces Frightening Legal Woes

In other legal news involving Olympians, former Canadian snowboarder Ryan Wedding pleaded not guilty in a California federal court weeks ago after being accused of running a billion-dollar drug ring and orchestrating multiple murders, per ESPN.

Wedding was indicted in 2024 on charges of “running a criminal enterprise, murder, conspiring to distribute cocaine and other crimes.”

Prosecutors accuse Wedding of moving up to 60 tons of cocaine through parts of Mexico and the United States under the protection of the Sinaloa Cartel.

The legal documents also accuse Wedding of orchestrating several murders, including the 2023 killings of two family members in Canada, a witness in Colombia, and a murder over drug debt.

Wedding was previously convicted in the United States on conspiracy to distribute cocaine and sentenced to prison in 2010 before being released in 2011.
