Simon Cowell might want to consider keeping his feet on solid ground. He has a history of injuries due to falls. The former American Idol judge recently suffered another serious injury after falling down steps. Keep reading to find out how his recovery is going.
Simon Cowell Misses Filming After Injury
Simon Cowell wrapped up filming for America’s Got Talent in September. Instead of taking a break, he flew to England to begin filming a new season of Britain’s Got Talent. Once that’s done, he’ll be back in the U.S. for another season of AGT. Despite cancellation speculation, the show was renewed for at least one more season.
But filming for BGT stopped before it could start. Simon Cowell suffered an injury that forced the auditions in Birmingham, England, to be canceled. X-Factor alum Stacey Solomon stepped in for Simon Cowell when filming resumed.
The popular reality TV judge eventually returned to auditions sporting a nasty mark on his forehead. He made light of the situation after news of the injury spread. Simon Cowell posted a video on social media assuring fans he was alive and well.
He didn’t give details about the accident, but now it’s reported that he took a hard fall down some steps.
Absence Explained As Bad Fall Down Steps
Simon Cowell addressed his injury at the recent auditions in Blackpool, England, The U.S. Sun reported. His fellow BGT judge Amanda Holden joked that the choir of ambulance workers auditioning were actually there for Simon.
“I thought they might be here in case anything went wrong with you again because you were poorly last week,” she said.
Simon Cowell isn’t exactly known for his humor, but he took the joke in good faith. “I fell down some steps, that wasn’t poorly, and I bumped my head,” he responded. He told the choir that he wished they’d been around earlier when he “bashed” his head.
He quipped, “Seriously – no one sang for me then!”

How’s He Doing Now?
Fan didn’t think American Idol would survive after Simon Cowell left in 2009. After a brief hiatus, the show moved from Fox to ABC and returns for Season 24 in 2026. Simon went on to focus on the reality TV competitions he created, including X-Factor, AGT, and BGT.
The latest fall down some steps isn’t Simon Cowell’s first scary fall. He broke his back in 2020 while trying out a new electric scooter at his home in Malibu, California. He needed massive surgery afterward.
But he assured everyone at the BGT auditions that he’s “fine” after his latest mishap. But some fans joked that Simon Cowell should be covered in bubble wrap to prevent further injuries.
Season 21 of America’s Got Talent is expected to start filming in early 2026. Simon Cowell will have made a full recovery from his fall by then.
