The trailer for Renny Harlin’s latest shark survival horror film, Deep Water, has just been released, and you can watch it below!
The film stars Aaron Eckhart, Ben Kingsley, Molly Wright, Angus Sampson, Kelly Gale and Li Wenhan, in a screenplay penned in a collaboration by Pete Bridges, Shayne Armstrong, Damien Power and SP Krause.
“Deep Water represents the kind of movie I’ve dreamed of making since I grew up loving the ’70s disaster movies,” director Harlin shared. “Spectacular action and unforgettable characters who didn’t leave a dry eye in the movie theatre.”
Harlin’s film will oversee a Sarasota Film Festival debut on 1st April, 2026, on the opening night before its theatrical run.
The film follows as a revamp of a scrapped sequel initially planned to follow up from Kimble Rendall’s 2012 disaster horror Bait 3D, which would take place on a crashed plane and be released under the name Deep Water. However, the project was cancelled in 2014 following the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. Reports in May 2023 confirmed Gene Simmons and Gary Hamilton (Arclight Films) had come together to form Simmons/Hamilton Productions, with a revamped Deep Waters scheduled to be their first feature release.
Harlin’s additional director credits include Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger, A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master and Deep Blue Sea, which also focuses on a shark hunting down a group in an underwater facility which uses sharks to test for a cure for Alzheimer’s.
Synopsis:
“A flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai goes down in the middle of the Pacific. After surviving the crash, the survivors soon discover they’re not alone, and they must survive the shark-infested waters. The terrified group is forced to work together and overcome their differences if they hope to escape their sinking plane and the frenzy of sharks.”
Deep Water will be released on May 1st in US cinemas. A UK release is TBC.
