Sony Pictures Television and GEA Live have released dates for the upcoming Outlander concert, based on the historical fantasy series, which debuted on Starz in the summer of 2014, which itself was adapted from the book series of the same name by author Diana Gabaldon.
Created by showrunner Matthew B. Roberts and featuring the work of composer Bear McCreary, the tour, fully titled Outlander in Concert: Echoes Through the Highlands, includes 75 American and European cities and 40 countries, with UK-based events taking place for four nights in February 2017. Symphony Hall in Birmingham, Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow, Eventim Apollo in London and O2 Apollo in Manchester are appearing on the tour list.
On the 30th May, there will be a show in Scotland which has reportedly sold out.
Outlander focuses on a World War I military nurse called Claire Randall (Caitríona Balfe) who travels in time from 1945 to 1743 and falls for a warrior called Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) during the incoming Jacobite rising. The show has received 98 nominations during its run, winning 38 of them, and will now immerse fans fully into its gripping Celtic-based score.
The report says: “Roberts collaborated with McCreary to create a concert experience for fans with a specially curated set list and scenes from the show, including footage from the highly anticipated eighth and final season that premiered on STARZ (US) and MGM+ (UK) earlier this month. A live ensemble of musicians and vocalists will perform with traditional Scottish instruments, including bagpipes, fiddles, and the hurdy-gurdy.”
McCreary also has composer credits on titles such as The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and the God of War video game.
The original Outlander show is currently on its eighth and final season. The first season was based on the book Outlander (1991), the second on Dragonfly in Amber (1992), the third on Voyager (1993), the fourth on Drums of Autumn (1996), the fifth on The Fiery Cross (2001) and the opening of A Breath of Snow and Ashes (2005). The sixth season carried on from A Breath of Snow and Ashes, with the seventh season concluding it while also including An Echo in the Bone (2009), Written in My Own Heart’s Blood (2014) and Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone (2021).
