Steam has announced that as of January 1, 2026, it will stop supporting systems running 32-bit versions of Windows. Steam says that only 0.01 per cent of systems use Windows 10 32-bit, which it learned through the Steam Hardware Survey.
You’ll still be able to play 32-bit games as Windows 10 64-bit is still supported. Steam Client installations will continue to function for the near term on Windows 10 32-bit, but these systems won’t get updates of any kind, including security updates. Additionally, Steam Support won’t offer technical support for issues relating to these old systems. Further, Steam won’t be able to guarantee that Steam will continue to work on these older system versions.
Steam says that it needed to make this change as core features rely on system drivers and other libraries that aren’t supported on 32-bit versions of Windows.
