Suzanne Rogers has delighted viewers for decades as Maggie Horton on Days of Our Lives. Just as the show reached an important milestone, she recently talked about her time on the soap. During the conversation, she also opened up about the time her role on the show comes to an end. Notably, this comes out after the actress became the subject of rumors this past summer.
Suzanne Rogers First Joined Days of Our Lives Back In 1973
Rogers started her career as a dancer for New York City’s Radio City Music Hall as a a Rockette, before appearing in Broadway shows. However, her biggest claim to fame is playing Maggie Horton on Days of Our Lives.
First joining the soap in 1973, Rogers has appeared on the NBC/Peacock soap for around five decades. Through the role, she has had one of the longest-running character roles in American soap history.
The daytime icon recently appeared at Peacock’s Days of Our Lives 60th Anniversary Celebration. During the event, she looked back on how far the show has come over the years.
Speaking with People, Rogers first took pride in how long the show has lasted over six decades. She noted, “Sixty is wonderful. I mean, not many shows can say that. I love it. It’s my whole life and my home for a long time.”
Rogers was also asked about if she has any plans to leave the soap anytime soon. She admitted that if she was asked to leave, she’d be gracious about it, noting, “Oh, listen. If they say ‘bye,’ I’ll go – I had a good run.” She also hinted that her retirement plans involved spending time with her sister in North Carolina.
That said, Rogers made clear, as long as it was up to her, she wasn’t planning on leaving anytime soon. She shared, “I’m not going until they lock me out.”
Rogers Was The Subject Of Retirement Rumors Over The Summer Following A Cancer Diagnosis
The outlet noted that there had been rumors of Rogers leaving the soap earlier this summer. At the time, fans were worried that Maggie’s storyline was coming to an end.
However, a spokesperson for the soap dispelled those rumors, noting that the rumors “could not be further from the truth.” They continued, “Maggie & Suzanne are integral to the show’s history, present storylines, and now, on the heels of our pick-up, the future! Neither are going anywhere.”
Rogers had been going through a lot due to her colon cancer diagnosis. However, she was in remission. The spokesperson said she was feeling “much better.” Rogers herself also noted that she has learned not to stress about the “small things” in life and wanted to continue bringing Maggie to life for fans.
