Taylor Swift is facing a legal challenge over her latest album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” as Las Vegas performer Maren Wade claims the title infringes on her decade-old showgirl brand.
Wade says the pop superstar and her team were aware of the trademark but proceeded anyway, rolling out the album across merchandise and retail channels aimed at the same audience.
The lawsuit seeks damages and an injunction to stop Taylor Swift from using the name, while the singer continues to celebrate her album’s success and awards.
Taylor Swift Faces Trademark Lawsuit Over ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ Album
Las Vegas performer Maren Wade, also known as Maren Flagg, filed a lawsuit against Taylor Swift on Monday in federal court in California, accusing the singer and UMG Recordings of trademark infringement, false designation, and unfair competition.
She is seeking damages and a court order to stop Swift from using the album’s name.
Wade says she’s been building her “Confessions of a Showgirl” brand for over a decade. It began in 2014 as a weekly column for Las Vegas Weekly, documenting her experiences in the entertainment industry.
The brand eventually expanded into a podcast, live stage shows, and touring productions, covering performances, writing, and digital media. She trademarked the name in 2015.
According to the legal documents, obtained by TMZ, Swift’s album title bears a striking resemblance to Wade’s brand. The names share a key phrase, “of a Showgirl,” and are both tied to musical and theatrical entertainment aimed at overlapping audiences.
USPTO Rejected Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ Due To Trademark Conflict, Wade Argues
Wade claims Swift and her team were aware of her trademark but proceeded anyway, with the album title quickly appearing on merchandise, labels, and packaging aimed at the same fan base Wade had cultivated for years.
The complaint notes that when Swift tried to register “The Life of a Showgirl,” the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office rejected it due to the likelihood of confusion with Wade’s trademark.
Wade argues that Swift’s massive commercial reach is overshadowing her brand, with some consumers assuming she copied the pop star.
“The continued erosion of that mark threatens the entirety of” her business, the lawsuit states.
The Vegas Performer Is Seeking Damages Over Taylor Swift’s Use Of The ‘Showgirl’ Brand
Wade is now seeking an injunction to stop Swift, her label, and merchandising partners from using the album name, as well as damages.
Ironically, Wade’s social media has previously been supportive of Swift, sharing her music and fan content.
On the other hand, Swift, who has not publicly commented on the lawsuit, owns one of the largest trademark portfolios in the entertainment industry, with over 170 active or pending registrations.
Her global merchandising operations are managed through TAS Rights Management and Bravado, which handle production and distribution of her branded goods.
Taylor Swift Wins Big At 2026 iHeartMusic Awards, Credits Album’s Energy And Fiancé Travis Kelce

Amid the legal storm, Swift celebrated a big win at the 2026 iHeartMusic Awards on Thursday night, where she took home seven awards, including Artist of the Year.
Accepting Album of the Year for “The Life of a Showgirl” at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, she credited the album’s “vibe” for its success.
“The album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ was really inspired by the energy that I felt, like, looking into crowds and seeing you guys and connecting with you every single night” during the Eras Tour,” Swift told the audience. “And so the album came out with this energy of just feeling really happy and strong and confident and free. And so I want to say thank you to the fans for giving me that feeling.”
She added a personal shoutout to her fiancé: “This album probably also feels very happy and confident and free because that’s the way that I get to feel every single day of my life because of my fiancé, who’s here tonight,” she said, as the camera cut to Kelce in the audience. The NFL star mouthed back, “I love you.”
Travis Kelce And Taylor Swift Reportedly Set To Wed This Summer Before NFL Season

Meanwhile, sources have exclusively told the Daily Mail that Kelce and Swift, both 36, plan to get married this summer, before the new football season begins.
The couple is keeping details so secret that even guests don’t yet know the exact date or location.
“Everybody [loved ones, close friends] has been told to put the summer on hold, and they will find out the details right before the wedding,” an insider said.
A second source confirmed the nuptials will happen ahead of the season, allowing Kelce to participate in his full training camp, which kicks off on July 22.
However, fans had speculated whether the wedding, long rumored for Swift’s $17 million Rhode Island mansion around the weekend of June 13, might be delayed, especially after Kelce unexpectedly signed a new contract extension with the Chiefs.
