Two very familiar foes meet at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United and Manchester City face off for the fifth time this season at St James’ Park, with both teams eyeing a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

The two have contested some engrossing encounters already this term, with Newcastle beating City 2-1 at home in the league and losing by the same scoreline in the reverse fixture. City won 5-1 on aggregate after a two-legged semi-final in the EFL Cup.

Both teams go into the game ahead of Champions League ties in midweek, with Newcastle set to host Barcelona and City renewing acquaintances with Real Madrid in the last 16, and they each contested extremely competitive Premier League fixtures on Wednesday. Newcastle claimed a late win over Manchester United despite playing much of the game with 10 men, while City were held to a dramatic 2-2 draw by Nottingham Forest.

As such, both Eddie Howe and Pep Guardiola face a tough task to protect against fatigue while naming the strongest team possible. 101GreatGoals has the full team news.

    Newcastle United team news

Tino Livramento returns from a hamstring injury for Newcastle, but is only fit enough for a place on the bench. The right-back has not played since the third-round penalty shootout win over Bournemouth in January.

Nick Woltemade returns to the starting XI after an illness kept the Magpies’ record signing out of the midweek win.

William Osula, who scored a stunning 90th-minute winner against Michael Carrick’s men, is rewarded with a start up front.

Anthony Gordon, Joelinton and Dan Burn all drop to the bench as part of four changes from the XI that started three days ago. Sven Botman and Joe Willock also come into the side, with Jacob Ramsey suspended after his controversial red card.

Aaron Ramsdale, who was key to that victory, retains his place in goal ahead of Nick Pope.

Newcastle United: Ramsdale; Trippier (c), Thiaw, Botman, Hall; Tonali, Willock; Elanga, Woltemade, Barnes; Osula.

Newcastle United substitutes: Pope, Joelinton, Wissa, Gordon, Livramento, J. Murphy, Burn, A. Murphy, Neave.

    Manchester City team news

Erling Haaland is not in the City squad as part of 10 changes from the side that was held by Forest.

Nico O’Reilly returns from injury for City and will hope to reprise his form from the recent league game against Newcastle, in which he scored both goals at the Etihad Stadium.

James Trafford, Abdukodir Khusanov, John Stones, Nathan Ake, Nico, Jeremy Doku, Tijjani Reijnders, Omar Marmoush and Savinho join O’Reilly in coming into the starting XI.

Gianluigi Donnarumma, Ruben Dias, Rayan Cherki, Marc Guehi, Rodri, Bernardo, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Antoine Semenyo and Phil Foden all drop to the bench.

Mateo Kovacic (ankle) and Josko Gvardiol (leg fracture) remain unavailable, while Rico Lewis also misses out due to a lack of fitness.

Manchester City: Trafford; Nunes, Khusanov, Stones (c), Ake; Nico, Reijnders, O’Reilly; Savinho, Doku, Marmoush.

Manchester City substitutes: Donnarumma, Dias, Cherki, Guéhi, Rodri, Bernardo, Ait-Nouri, Semenyo, Foden

Where to watch Newcastle v Manchester City: TV and online streams

Kick-off on Saturday is at 20:00 (15:00 ET / 12:00 PT). Live TV coverage in the UK is on TNT Sports 1, TNT Sports Ultimate and the Discovery Plus app.

TNT Sports costs £29.99 a month through Discovery Plus, which includes Eurosport and entertainment and is available on a vast range of devices including smart TVs and gaming consoles.

Stats for Newcastle v Manchester City

    • City could become just the third team to eliminate Newcastle from both the EFL Cup and FA Cup in the same season, after Wimbledon in 1987-88 and Arsenal in 2007-08
    • However, the Magpies have progressed from nine of their last 10 FA Cup Fifth Round ties, with two of those triumphs coming against City in 1994-95 and 2001-02
    • Guardiola’s men have won 18 of their last 20 matches in the FA Cup across the last four seasons, losing only in the finals in 2024 against Man Utd and 2025 against Crystal Palace
    • Newcastle have already beaten two Premier League sides in Bournemouth and Aston Villa to reach this stage of the competition
    • City, meanwhile, have benefited from relatively straight-forward ties against lower-league sides Exeter City and Salford City.
