Mubi have dropped an official trailer for the upcoming horror filmTeenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, directed by I Saw The TV Glow’s Jane Schoenbrun and starring The X-Files’s Gillian Andersonand Hacks’s Hannah Einbinder.
Schoenbrun’s third feature is scheduled for a summer release and was first shared with The New Yorker in 2024, with the director summarising it as a fun, gory story.
“My next movie is all about sex–essentially a movie about learning to enjoy sex after transition,” the director then shared with Filmmaker Magazine. “Pre-transition, it wasn’t that I was asexual–I had plenty of desire–but having good sex in the wrong body was impossible. What was available was full dissociation, which is obviously a theme in the first two films.”
The filmmaker’s I Saw the TV Glow earned award nods at the 2025 Independent Spirit Awards, such as Best Director, Best Lead Performance and Best Feature and established their growing status in Queer cinema. Additional cast members include Amanda Fix, Arthur Conti, Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman, Patrick Fischler, Dylan Baker, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Kevin McDonald, Quintessa Swindell, and Jack Haven.
Anderson and Einbinder were confirmed as stars in May 2025, while February 2026 saw the rest of the cast announced. Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment shares production rights with Mubi, who handle all distribution rights. Filming reportedly took place in British Columbia.
Synopsis:
“After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection. But when she visits the original movie’s star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.”
Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma will hit UK cinemas in August 2026.
