In classic MobileSyrup fashion, I’ve been looking around for good deals on tech and phone plans for Black Friday, and every stone I turn over is leading me to a terrible deal this year.
For instance, Telus says it has discounts on some mobile accessories for the sales event, but most of them are fake sales. I’ve listed them below;
- AirPods Pro 3 – regular Apple price: $329 – Telus sale price: $329.
- Galaxy Buds 3 Pro – regular Samsung price: $229 – Telus sale price: $230.
Then you get to the AirPods 4, which Telus also says are on sale, but they actually cost more to get from Telus than they would from Apple or anywhere else:
Weirdly enough, the Galaxy Buds 3 FE are actually discounted slightly:
Other deals at Telus
Unfortunately, Telus doesn’t have any other great deals on right now, and in some cases, the carrier’s website doesn’t accurately show the deals on offer.
For example, Telus is offering the Pixel 10 for $0/mo financing, but the deal is only available on Telus’ exorbitant $125/mo plan. It normally costs $7.50/mo with Telus’ “premium” financing options, but when we went through the checkout process, the Telus website often didn’t remove the $7.50 fee when selecting the more expensive plan.
Either way, the deal isn’t that good. At $125/mo, you’re paying $3,000 over two years for a phone that costs $1,099 outright. It’d actually be cheaper to get Telus’ $90/mo plan and pay the $7.50 financing fee for a final total of $2,340. Regardless, you need to return the phone to Telus after two years, so I think most people would be better off buying the Pixel 10 outright from Google for $1,099 and then grabbing a cheaper plan from the likes of Public or Freedom. For example, a $40/mo plan works out to $960 over two years — tack on the $1,099 cost of the Pixel 10 and you’re looking at $2,059 total, much cheaper than any of Telus’ options.
If you’re not in the market for a Pixel, Telus also has the Galaxy S25 and iPhone 16 on sale for $0, but again, you need to get the company’s most expensive plan, which makes the deal not much of a deal.
There is a bring your own phone plan for $60 with 60GB of 5G data listed under the Black Friday sales, which isn’t a terrible deal, but since most people won’t use anywhere close to 60GB per month, there are still much more affordable options at other carriers, including Telus’ own flanker Public Mobile.
