The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced on Monday its 2026 Gala dress code, “Fashion Is Art.” It will examine “the complex interplay between artistic representations of the body and fashion as an embodied artform,” according to a statement from the Met.
The Costume Institute’s spring 2026 exhibition, “Costume Art,” will be on view at from May 10 to Jan. 10, 2027.
The Met Gala will take place on May 4, and will be co-chaired by Nicole Kidman, tennis star Venus Williams, Anna Wintour and Beyoncé, who will be making her first appearance at the event in a decade. Gala and exhibition lead sponsors Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos will serve as honorary chairs.
The 2026 Gala is Wintour’s first since stepping back from her decades-long role as editor in chief of American Vogue, and ceding day-to-day operations to head of editorial content Chloe Malle. (She remained with Vogue as global editorial director and as publisher Condé Nast’s chief content officer.)
At the Met Gala, Dandies Owned the Night
In the first Met Gala that centred Black style, there was a collision of modern culture and history from embellished capes to bedazzled canes and grillz.
