All of us know (special parents) that finding a hotel that works for both you and your kids isn’t easy. You want somewhere nice enough that you don’t feel like you’re staying at a glorified summer camp, but also somewhere your 8-year-old won’t be bored out of their mind.
After spending way too much time researching (and a few trips to Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit), I’ve found some places that actually nail this balance. These hotels get that parents want luxury too, not just the kids.

1. Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit: The One That Has Everything
This place is expensive, I won’t lie. But if you’re going to splurge on one family trip, this might be it.
What makes it worth the money:
- Baby Concierge service: I know it sounds over the top, but they handle cribs, monitors, high chairs, even tiny bathrobes. Way less packing stress.
- Actually good kids’ club: Beach Olympics, tortilla-making classes, cultural activities. My friend’s teenager spent hours there voluntarily, which says something.
- Huge suites with ocean views: You can actually spread out and not feel like you’re living on top of each other.
- World-class spa and restaurants: For when you can sneak away for some adult time.

2. Four Seasons Punta Mita: Consistently Great
You know what you’re getting with Four Seasons, and this one doesn’t disappoint. The staff here genuinely seems to like kids, which makes a huge difference.
Why it works for families:
- Kids for All Seasons program: Daily activities like treasure hunts, nature walks, beach games. Nothing groundbreaking, but solid and consistent.
- Private villas and family suites: Space to actually unwind after a day in the sun.
- Amazing beachfront activities: Paddleboarding, kayaking, whale watching tours (in season).
- That Instagram-worthy infinity pool: Overlooking the Pacific, perfect for morning swims or sunset lounging.
Pro tip: Ask about their “Catch of the Day” experience where you pick your fish right off the fishing boat. The kids love it, and honestly, so do the adults.

3. Marival Distinct: Perfect for Bigger Groups
If you’re traveling with grandparents or multiple families, this is your spot. The suites have actual kitchens and laundry (game changer) when you’re dealing with sandy clothes and picky eaters.
What families love here:
- 2- and 3-bedroom suites: Full kitchens, laundry, private balconies or plunge pools. More like vacation rentals than hotel rooms.
- VIP beach club: Relaxed vibe with kid-friendly food, no long waits or fancy dress codes.
- Family Emotion Package: Includes toys, games, beach picnic setup, even a photo shoot. Less stuff you have to think about.
- Staff that actually remembers your names: They go out of their way to make kids feel special.

4. Conrad Punta de Mita: Something Different
This one’s a bit more tucked away, which I liked. Feels less like a resort factory and more like a hidden gem.
What makes it special:
- Cultural kids’ club: Storytelling about local legends, traditional mask-making, stuff that actually teaches kids about where they are.
- Gorgeous rooms with local flair: Colorful, Huichol-inspired decor. Way more interesting than your typical beige hotel room.
- Guided nature walks: Safe, educational walks where kids learn about local animals and plants (you’ll probably learn something too).
- On-site cultural team: Can organize traditional games or teach a few words in the native Wixarika language.
Must-do: Take a family walk along the beach early in the morning – you might spot dolphins or whales, depending on the season.

5. Dreams Bahia Mita: The Practical Choice
This shares beachfront with an adults-only resort (Secrets), but Dreams is completely family-focused. It’s newer, well-designed, and gets the family travel thing right.
Why it works:
- Explorer’s Club for younger kids: Keeps them busy with age-appropriate activities and supervised beach time.
- Core Zone for teens: Video games, sports, movie nights. Finally, something that doesn’t make them roll their eyes.
- Well-designed family suites: Ocean views, jacuzzis, balconies where you can actually relax after the kids are asleep.
- Eco-conscious touches: Great for sparking conversations with kids about the environment.
- On-site surf school: Perfect for beginners and kids, with instructors who know what they’re doing.

This Could Be Your Best Family Trip
Look, traveling with kids is never going to be the same as a couples’ trip to Paris. But it doesn’t have to be a compromise either. These places in Riviera Nayarit prove you can have luxury and family-friendly in the same vacation.
Will it cost more than an all-inclusive in Cancun? Probably. But if you want somewhere that works for everyone in your family. Just book early. These places fill up fast, especially during school holidays.
