Deadline reports that Kirsten Dunst has joined the cast of The Housemaid sequel alongside Sydney Sweeney. Following Amanda Seyfried’s exit at the end of the first film, another powerhouse female lead has been brought in for the sequel. Read our review of the first film here.
After the success of The Housemaid, based on Freida McFadden’s novel of the same name, The Housemaid’s Secret was quickly greenlit by Lionsgate. The sequel will adapt McFadden’s second book in the best-selling Housemaid series, with Paul Feig returning to direct. Michele Morrone is also set to reprise his role as Enzo, whose character takes on a larger role in the second book. Production is expected to begin later this year.
The Housemaid’s Secret follows Millie (Sydney Sweeney) as she returns to work as a housemaid for a new family. However, things take a dark turn when Millie realises that the wife is kept behind a closed door that Millie has been forbidden to open. Determined to uncover what lies behind, Millie begins investigating on duty.
Kirsten Dunst was also recently cast in A Minecraft Movie 2, where she will star alongside Jack Black and Jason Momoa. These casting announcements come after Dunst joked with Town & Country Magazine last year that she might like to appear in a film where she doesn’t lose money.
Both franchises are already proving to be major successes. A Minecraft Movie grossed over $960 million worldwide against a $150 million budget, while The Housemaid has earned nearly $400 million on a $35 million budget as of March 2026. So, by all measures, these are highly successful films for the respective franchises.
