Vertigo Releasing have dropped online the official UK Trailer for Charlie Pollinger’s The Plague.
Majority of us can agree, adolescence for many was a living hell like the boy in this debut feature for Pollinger. We mustn’t forget some of us, it was also the wonder years! This film made it’s premiere last year at Cannes Film Festival receiving a 11 minute standing ovation plus rave reviews.
The Plague tells the story of a socially awkward tween Ben (Blunck). He endures the ruthless hierarchy at a water polo camp, his anxiety spiraling into psychological turmoil over the summer.
This one stars newcomers Everett Blunck, Kenny Rasmussen, Kayo Martin plus Joel Edgerton who is also onboard as the film’s producer.
Synopsis | In the summer of 2003, at an all-boys summer water polo camp, socially anxious twelve-year-old Ben (Blunck) struggles to fit in amidst a ruthless social hierarchy. When he befriends Eli (Rasmussen) — a lonely, acne-ridden outcast shunned by the others for allegedly carrying a contagious “plague” — Ben becomes entangled in a cruel, escalating ritual of scapegoating and fear. As the lines between teasing and real harm blur, Ben is forced to confront his own complicity and the terrifying cost of belonging. A tense, darkly humorous coming-of-age story about masculinity, peer pressure, and the horrors that fester when cruelty masquerades as a game.
The Plague will arrive on Digital platforms in the UK and Ireland from 20th April. The film will also make it’s UK premiere at Glasgow Film Festival on 6th March.
