The additive accelerates this process, allowing the material to break down up to 64x faster than untreated plastic. As it decomposes, the company says that roughly 75% of it is converted into biogas, a renewable energy source that can be captured and used for electricity, heat, or fuel. The remaining 25% becomes humus, an inert, soil-like material that does not release toxins or microplastics back into the environment.
